Bereshit/Genesis Chapter 18 Part B – Abraham’s Intersession

Welcome

First posted JANUARY 24, 2019

YHWH Elohim, and Abraham His faithful servant, are alone in the field as the men departed. Sarah remained in the tent. YHWH Elohim makes known to his servant what He is about to do to the citizens of the cities in the plain but not before reiterating that Abraham would instruct his seed in the ways of Yah, and that the nations would be blessed through him. When Abraham becomes aware of the intention of YHWH Elohim, he begins to intercede for the possible righteous among the people which included his nephew Lot. Abraham began with a low number, knowing that for YHWH Elohim to intervene, just as in the instance of the Tower of Babel, the situation had to be very grievous. In his efforts to secure the safety of the righteous, Abraham humbles himself and engages his Elohim by getting the reassurance that if only ten righteous are to be found in the city , it would be spared. When you are a friend of YHWH Elohim, he takes your words seriously just as he did with His servant Abraham.

Psalms that praise the Righteousness, Justice and Judgement of YHWH Elohim

Psalm 97:1-12 Brenton (96 MT)
1For David, when his land is established. The Lord reigns, let the earth exult, let many islands rejoice. 2Cloud, and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the establishment of his throne. 3Fire shall go before him, and burn up his enemies round about. 4His lightnings appeared to the world; the earth saw, and trembled. 5The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. 6The heavens have declared his righteousness, and all the people have seen his glory. 7Let all that worship graven images be ashamed, who boast of their idols; worship him, all ye his angels. 8Sion heard and rejoiced; and the daughters of Judea exulted, because of thy judgments, O Lord. 9For thou art Lord most high over all the earth; thou art greatly exalted above all gods. 10Ye that love the Lord, hate evil; the Lord preserves the souls of his saints; he shall deliver them from the hand of sinners. 11Light is sprung up for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. 12Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks for a remembrance of his holiness.

Psalm 98:1-9 Brenton (97 MT)
1A Psalm of David. Sing to the Lord a new song; for the Lord has wrought wonderful works, his right hand, and his holy arm, have wrought salvation for him. 2The Lord has made known his salvation, he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3He has remembered his mercy to Jacob, and his truth to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 4Shout to God, all the earth; sing, and exult, and sing psalms. 5Sing to the Lord with a harp, with a harp, and the voice of a psalm. 6With trumpets of metal, and the sound of a trumpet of horn make a joyful noise to the Lord before the king. 7Let the sea be moved, and the fullness of it; the world, and they that dwell in it. 8The rivers shall clap their hands together; the mountains shall exult. 9For he is come to judge the earth; he shall judge the world in righteousness, and the nations in uprightness.
